Friends of Alex Scholarship Fund

Encore Theatre, based in Libertyville, Illinois, is proud to announce it's new Scholarship Fund, Friends for Alex, in honor of Encore Theater's former member, Alex Reid.

Alex Reid was a 14-year-old boy who lived life to the fullest. His love for music, theatre and the arts was evident everyday. Alex was an honorary member of the Encore Theatre family. His passion and love shone through each and every cast member on stage during his time with Encore.

Alex Reid suffered many health complications with the main culprit being mitochondrial disease. Mitochondrial diseases result from failures of the mitochondria, specialized compartments present in every cell of the body that creates energy and sustains life and growth, When they fail, the life of the person in whom this is happening is severely compromised. Alex Reid suffered this for most of his life and passed in August of 2010.

The Friends for Alex Scholarship Fund reflects Encore Theatre's love and dedication to this inspirational young man. For children who are passionate about the arts, who may not otherwise be able to participate due to income or ability, Encore Theatre extends an invitation to children from first grade through high school to apply for this scholarship so they may participate in Encore Theatre's future productions starting with The Wiz in Summer of 2012.

Prospective applicants are asked to contact Encore Theatre directly for applications and further information. Scholarship recipients will be notified upon acceptance.
